今週は10日13日と頭前後のオフショアコンディションに恵まれた。
どちらも厚めの波中心でカーヴィングやカットバック、インサイドからショアが厚くなって消え勝ちだったためカーヴしてフィニッシュはパリっとしたセクションでフィニッシュとはなかなかいかなかったが、それぞれ数本の良い波に乗ることができた。
何れもファーストブレイクからフェイスが立ってボトムトゥトップ、頭オーバーの少しボヨつきによる立ち上がりとパワーのある波。
中にはファーストからが速くて抜けてからという波もあったが、何れもノートリムでのリエントリーを3回か終いはうねりへ戻る前のフェイスでのねじ込むカーヴィング。
そのライドを見た方からは「凄い波でしたね」とか「凄いスプレー上がってましたね」とか声をかけていただいた。お声がけいただいた方の中には顔見知りの方もいるが、こうして良い波乗ってそのライディングを良かったとも言ってもらえるのは単純に嬉しいことだ。
無人のピークでこうしたライディングを繰り返す、サイズを胸～肩まで下げればそんなコンディションも年に数回はある。個人的な満足度はあまり変わらない、ただその感触に浸っていたい。

この2日共頭オーバーで少しボヨつきの影響があるファーストセクションで縦のリエントリーを仕掛けることには少し不安もあった。その微妙なボヨつきでタイミングを外し飛ばされるか、抜けて置いていかれるかと考えると前に出てカットバックしてファーストより纏まり高さの落ちるセカンドでリエントリーとも瞬時に頭を過ったが、変な話落ちてもまた乗れるとコンディションの良さから失敗して捨ててもいいやと高さのある際を狙った。
両日共アベレージサイズの肩～頭では数本トップアクションで存外リップが出てこなくて外れて遅れた波はあるが、頭オーバークラスの数アクション入る波は全てコンプリート出来た。
そして何より足裏に感じたパワーと、アクション毎メイクして下りる瞬間の悦楽がたまらない。
特に昨日の鴨川は日本ではあまりお目にかかれない波もメイクできて、その熱っぽさが今も残る。
小波続きでいきなり頭オーバーっていう日はそのファーストライドまで感じが掴めないこともあるが、今なら頭オーバーまたそれがボヨつきでサックアップして頭半近くになる波、そこにオンショアが少し入って変に崩れやすくても全然OKだ。
ボトムからトップを大きく使える波がただただ待ち遠しい。

Passionate Reverberations

This week, on the 10th and 13th, I was blessed with offshore conditions around the beginning and end of the week. Both days had thicker waves, with the focus on carving and cutbacks. Riding from the inside where the shorebreak was thick and vanishing, it was challenging to finish with a crisp section, but I managed to catch several good waves on both days.

Each wave started with a head-high set, providing a powerful face. While some waves allowed for quick take-offs, the rest required me to navigate a few re-entries with no trim but a couple of turns to push through the face. I often found myself twisting into a carving motion.

It was truly satisfying to ride these waves. I received compliments from those who watched my rides, with comments like, "That was an amazing wave," and "You had incredible spray." Some of those who approached me were familiar faces, and receiving such positive feedback on my riding is always a heartening experience.

Riding such waves repeatedly on uncrowded peaks is a unique feeling. Conditions like these, where the size ranges from chest to shoulder-high, come around a few times a year. The personal satisfaction remains quite consistent, but the sensation of riding these waves is something I want to savor.

Both days, I felt a slight unease about attempting vertical re-entries in the head-high sets with a bit of wobble in the first section. Timing was crucial; a mistimed move could send me flying or leave me behind. The thought of staying forward and doing a cutback and then re-entering in the higher and more organized second section crossed my mind, but oddly enough, I was open to the idea that, due to the excellent conditions, even if I failed, I could catch another wave.

On both days, in waves averaging shoulder to head-high, I didn't manage to get many top actions, and there were some waves where the lip didn't show up as expected, causing me to miss the critical section. Yet, every head-high or overhead wave I rode, I completed all my maneuvers.

Most importantly, the power I felt beneath my feet and the sheer delight of every successful maneuver made each ride a truly memorable experience. Especially in yesterday's waves at Kamogawa, which are rarely seen in Japan, I could complete maneuvers. The exhilaration of that experience still lingers.

Days that start with smaller waves and suddenly become head-high can sometimes leave you unsure of what to expect for the first ride. However, in these conditions, even if the wave is a bit wobbly and sections are unpredictable due to the onshore breeze, it's perfectly fine. I eagerly await for waves that allow me to utilize the entire face from bottom to top.
