コンペサーフィンに関わらない方にはサーフィンにおける勝ち負けなどあまりないだろう。
でも初心者からプロまでが場合によっては同じ海に入れば、乗れた乗れないなどから始まり、そこには微妙な他人への感情を抱くことはあると思う。
サーフィンはとりあえず乗れなきゃ面白くない。
中には浮かんでるだけでも満足という人もいるだろうけど、コンペに関わらない人でも多くは乗れなければ面白いとは感じず、乗っている（数または上手に若しくは両方）人に対して嫉妬することもあろう。
コンペなら他人に競争相手との優劣を付けられその結果が勝ち負けだが、フリーサーフィンは基本自己満足だから勝ち負けはないが微妙な機微による劣等感や優越感による勝ち気分負け気分を、特にちょっとがっついた人などは抱きやすいだろう。

誰もが波には乗りたい、シェアしながらなどコンディションと人に恵まれないとなかなかない。
ましてや前乗りはもちろんスネークインなどされても気分は良くない。意趣返ししたろ等と思う人もいるだろう、それでどんどん場が荒れてきたりすることもあるしね。

愉しんだもん勝ち。
もしフリーサーフィンの中で勝ち負けを持ち込むならそうなる。
コンペじゃなければ上手い下手ではなく、どれだけ自分が愉しんだか、それだけだ。
もちろんコンディションの悪い日に遊べるか、愉しめるかといった事には上手い下手が係る。今日テイクオフはしても上手く乗れず愉しめなかった波も、上手になれば遊べる波に変えることができて愉しめるようになる。
でも基本は愉しんだ者勝ち、板を変えまた乗り方を変え波に合わせて乗れば、良くない波でも愉しめるようになるでしょ、サーフィンは愉しんでナンボだよ。

Yet, some individuals may still experience a sense of inferiority or superiority based on subtle nuances, and those with a slightly competitive nature may find themselves feeling triumphant or defeated.

Everyone desires to ride the waves, but it's not always possible due to conditions or the presence of other surfers. Moreover, having someone drop in or snake your wave can be frustrating. Some may contemplate retaliation, leading to tensions in the lineup.

The key is to find joy in the experience. If you bring a sense of competition into free surfing, that's what it becomes. Unlike in competitions, where skills are judged, in free surfing, it's not about being good or bad; it's about how much enjoyment you derive from the experience. Of course, the ability to enjoy depends on factors like the condition of the waves and whether you can have fun on a given day. A wave that wasn't enjoyable today might become enjoyable as you improve your skills.

In essence, the winner is the one who enjoys the most. By changing your board or adjusting your riding style to match the waves, even less favorable conditions can become enjoyable. After all, the essence of surfing lies in finding joy in the ride.
